Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah, "Listen, Hananiah! The LORD did not send you, but you have persuaded this people to trust in a lie.

But look, you keep trusting in deceptive words to no avail.
And you, Pashhur, and all who live in your house, will go into captivity. You will go to Babylon, and there you will die and be buried--you and all your friends to whom you have prophesied these lies.'"
And in the presence of all the people Hananiah proclaimed, "This is what the LORD says: 'In this way, within two years I will break the yoke of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon off the neck of all the nations.'" At this, Jeremiah the prophet went on his way.
For this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Do not be deceived by the prophets and diviners among you, and do not listen to the dreams you elicit from them.
"Send a message to all the exiles: This is what the LORD says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite. Because Shemaiah prophesied to you, though I did not send him, and made you trust in a lie,
The visions of your prophets were empty and deceptive; they did not expose your guilt to ward off your captivity. The oracles they saw for you were empty and misleading.
"Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are now prophesying. Tell those who prophesy out of their own imagination: 'Hear the word of the LORD!
This is what the Lord GOD says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit, yet have seen nothing.
They see false visions and speak lying divinations. They claim, "Thus declares the LORD," when the LORD did not send them; yet they wait for the fulfillment of their message.
My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and speak lying divinations. They will not belong to the council of My people or be recorded in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.
Her prophets whitewash these deeds by false visions and lying divinations, saying, 'This is what the Lord GOD says,' when the LORD has not spoken.
And if anyone still prophesies, his father and mother who bore him will say to him, 'You shall not remain alive, because you have spoken falsely in the name of the LORD.' When he prophesies, his father and mother who bore him will pierce him through.
