1Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, 2“Who is this that obscures My counsel with ignorant words? 3Stand up like a man; for I will question you, and you shall answer Me. 4Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. 5Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Or who has stretched a measuring line across it? 6Upon what are its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? 8Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, as if issuing from the womb, 9When I made the cloud its garment, and thick darkness a blanket for it, 10And set boundaries for the sea, limiting its shores, 11And said, ‘Thus far shall you come, but no farther; and here shall your proud waves halt’? 12Have you, in all your days, commanded the morning since your days; and caused the dawn to know when to break, 13That it might spread to the ends of the earth, that the wicked night might be ended? 14As the light approaches, the shapes and features of the earth are revealed and stand out like the folds of a garment. 15And the wicked are denied their light, and the uplifted arm is broken. 16Have you plumbed the springs of the sea? Or have you explored its depth? 17Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death? 18Hast you comprehended the breadth of the earth? Tell Me, if you know all this. 19Where is the home where light dwells? And as for darkness, where does it live, 20That you could take each to its home, and do you know how to get there? 21Of course you know all this, because you were already born then; and the number of your days is great! 22Have you entered or seen the treasuries (storehouses) of the snow, or of the hail, 23Which I have reserved for times of trouble, the days of battle and war? 24How is the light parted, which scatters the east wind upon the earth? 25Who cuts a channel for the torrent of rain waters, or a path for the thunder storm, 26To cause it to rain on the earth, in the wilderness, where no man lives; 27To satisfy the desolate wasteland, and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth? 28Has the rain a father? Or who gives birth to the drops of dew? 29From whose womb came the ice? And who gives birth to the hoary frost of heaven? 30The waters harden (freeze) like stone, and the surface of the deep is frozen. 31Can you bind influence the movement of the stars, bind the cluster of Pleiades, or loosen the bands of Orion? 32Can you bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? Or can you guide Arcturus (the Bear) with her cubs? 33Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you establish their dominion over the earth? 34Can you shout at the clouds, and cause them to produce a downpour? 35Can you send lightning bolts, and have them obey you? 36Who has put wisdom in the mind? Or given understanding to the heart? 37Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the water jars of the heavens, 38When the dust grows into hardness, and the clods stick together?

39Will you hunt the prey for the lioness; or satisfy the hunger of the young lions, 40When they crouch in their dens, and lie in wait in the thicket? 41Who provides the prey (food) for the raven, when its young cry unto God, and wander about without food (meat)?
