Job 39

1Do you know you the time when the wild mountain goats give birth? Or can you mark when the does have their fawns? 2Do you know the number the months of their gestation period; or when they give birth? 3They kneel, they bring forth their young ones, they rid themselves of their labor pains. 4Their young ones thrive and become strong, growing up in the open field; they go forth, and do not return. 5Who has sent out the wild donkey free? Or who has loosened the restraints on the onager? 6Whose home I have made the wilderness, and the barren land is where he lives. 7He scorns the noise of the city, nor does he regard the commands of a driver. 8He ranges through the mountain pastures, and searches for every green thing. 9Will the wild ox {unicorn} be willing to serve you, or abide by your manger? 10Can you harness the wild ox (unicorn) to plow furrows in the field? Or will he harrow the valleys after you? 11Will you rely on him, because his strength is great, and trust him to do you work for you? 12Can you believe that he will bring your seed home, and gather it into your barn? 13Did you give the peacocks their beautiful wings? Or the wings and feathers to the ostrich, 14Which leaves her eggs in the earth, to get their warmth from the sand, 15And forgets that the foot may crush them, or a wild beast may break them? 16She is indifferent to her young ones, as though they were not hers; she has no fear that her labor may be in vain, 17Because God has not imparted wisdom to her, nor has He given her understanding. 18Yet, when she rises to run, she laughs at the horse and his rider. 19Have you given the horse its strength? Have you adorned his neck with a flowing mane? 20Can you make him leap like a grasshopper? His snorting is frightening. 21He paws the earth, rejoicing in his strength; he goes on to face armed men. 22He mocks at fear, and is not dismayed; nor does he turn back from the sword. 23The quiver rattles against his side, along with the glittering spear and the shield. 24He devours ground distance, with fierceness and rage; nor does he halt at the sound of the trumpet. 25He snorts at the sound of the trumpets, ‘Ha, ha’; and he senses the battle from afar, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting. 26Does the hawk fly by your wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south? 27Does the eagle mount up at your command, and make her nest on high? 28It dwells upon the crag of the rock, as its stronghold. 29From there it seeks its prey, and its eyes observe from afar. 30Her young ones also feast on blood; and where the carcass is, there is it.”
