1And after six days Jesus took with Him Peter, James, and John, his brother, and led them up onto a high mountain by themselves,
2And there He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His clothes were as white as the light.
3And, just then, there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
4Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles (booths); one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”.
5While he was yet speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and a voice from out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.”
6And when the disciples heard this, they fell face-down on the ground, and were very much afraid.
7And then Jesus came and touched them, and said, “Get up, and don’t be afraid”.
8And when they had looked up, they saw no one, except Jesus.
9And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus told them, “Tell this vision to no one, until the Son of man has been raised from the dead.”
10And His three disciples asked Him, “Why then do the teachers of the law (scribes) say that Elijah must come first?”
11And Jesus replied, “Elijah truly shall come first, and will restore all things.
12But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him whatever they wished. And in the same way, the Son of man shall also suffer at their hands.”
13Then the disciples realized that He was referring to John the Baptist.
14And when they had returned to where the people were gathered, a certain man came and knelt down to Him, and said,
15“Lord, have mercy on my son; for he is epileptic, and suffers greatly with seizures; and often he falls into the fire, or into the water.
16And I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him”.
17Then Jesus answered, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.”
18And Jesus rebuked the demon within him; and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that moment.
19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and asked, “Why could we not cast him out?”
20And Jesus said to them, “Because you have such little faith; for I truly tell you, ‘If you have as much faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, “Move from here to there”; and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible for you.
21However, this kind does not come out, except by prayer and fasting.”
22And when they gathered in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of man shall be betrayed and delivered into the hands of men;
23And they shall kill Him, and on the third day He shall be raised to life again.” And they were filled with exceeding grief.
24And when they came to Capernaum, those that collected the temple (two-drachma) tax came to Peter, and said, “Does your Master not pay the temple tax?”
25Peter replied, “Yes, He does.” And when he had come into the house, Jesus was the first to speak to him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute (tax money)? From their own children, or from others?”
26Peter replied, “From others”. Jesus said to him, “Then the children are free.
27But so that we do not cause offence, go and cast a hook in the sea, and open the mouth of the first fish that you catch; and you shall find a (four-drachma) piece of money.
