Proverbs 14

1Every wise woman builds her home, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands. 2Whoever fears the LORD walks uprightly, but those that despise Him are devious in their ways. 3The fool’s prideful talk becomes the rod with which he is beaten; but the words of the wise shall protect them. 4Where there are no oxen, the crib is neat and clean; but by the strength of the ox comes much abundance. 5A faithful witness will not lie, but false witnesses spew lies. 6A scoffer that seeks wisdom never finds it; but knowledge comes easily to the discerning. 7Stay away from fools, because you will find no knowledge in them. 8The wisdom of the prudent is to consider his way, but the folly of fools is self-deceit. 9Fools mock atoning for sin, but the righteous acknowledge sin and seek reconciliation. 10Every heart knows its own bitterness; and a stranger cannot share in its joy. 11The house of the wicked shall not stand; but the home of the upright shall flourish. 12There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end leads to death. 13Even in laughter the heart may ache, and the end of that mirth may be grief. 14The backslider shall receive his own reward; and a good man shall also be satisfied. 15The simple believe anything; but the prudent man gives thought to what he does. 16The wise recognize and avoid evil; but the fool rashly plunges ahead. 17Those with a quick temper act foolishly, and those who devise evil are despised. 18The simple inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge. 19The evil bow before the good; and the wicked, at the gates, before the righteous. 20The poor is shunned even by his own neighbor, but the rich have many friends. 21It is a sin to despise one’s neighbor; but blessed is he that has mercy on the poor. 22They that devise evil have lost their way. But mercy and truth shall be with them that devise good. 23All hard work is productive; but mere talk tends only to poverty. 24The crown of the wise is their wealth, but the efforts of fools yield folly. 25A truthful witness saves souls, but a deceitful witness is a traitor. 26Whoever fears the LORD are secure, and His children shall have a place of refuge. 27The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to avoid the death traps. 28The multitude of people is the king's glory; but without subjects a prince is ruined. 29He that is patient is of great understanding, but he that is hasty invites folly. 30A heart at peace is life to the body; but envy is like the rottenness of the bones. 31He that oppresses the poor has contempt for his Maker; but he that honors Him has mercy on the poor. 32The wicked are crushed by calamity; but the righteous have hope even in death. 33Wisdom rests in the heart of him that has understanding, but is not found among fools. 34Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people (nation). 35The king delights in a wise servant, but a shameful one stirs his wrath.
