1A wise son hears his father's instruction, but a scoffer does not respond to correction.
2A wise man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth, but transgressors feed on violence.
3He that guards his mouth preserves his life, but he that speaks rashly shall have destruction.
4The sluggard’s appetite is never satisfied; but the diligent shall prosper.
5A righteous man hates lying, but a wicked man is disgusting, and comes to shame.
6Righteousness guards him that has integrity; but wicked men are easily misled.
7There is he that pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; and then there is he that acts as if he were poor, yet has great wealth.
8The wealthy man can pay ransom for his life; but the poor is not even threatened.
9The light of the righteous shines brightly; but the lamp of the wicked is soon snuffed out.
10Where there is pride there is contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.
11Wealth gotten by dishonesty soon diminishes; but he that earns with his honest labor shall enjoy increase.
12Hope deferred makes the heart sick; but when desire thing comes, it is a tree of life.
13Whoever despises teaching brings destruction upon himself; but he that obeys the commandment shall be rewarded.
14The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning them from the deadly traps.
15Good understanding wins favor, but transgressors are headed for disaster.
16Every prudent person acts out of knowledge; but a fool invites his folly.
17A wicked messenger brings mischief, but a faithful ambassador brings healing.
18Poverty and shame come to him that refuses instruction; but he that heeds correction shall be honored.
19The desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul; but fools detest departing from evil.
20He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.
21Trouble pursues sinners; but the righteous shall be rewarded.
22A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children; and the wealth of the sinner is stored for the just.
23The fallow ground (unplowed field) of the poor would yield much food, but it is destroyed by injustice.
24He that spares the rod hates his children; but he that loves them gives them discipline when needed.
