1CONCERNING the divisions of the porters whom David the king appointed as guards: Meshelemiah of the sons of Joseph. 2And Meshelemiah had seven male children: namely, Zechariah his first-born, Jediael the second, Zechariah the third, Nathanael the fourth, 3Elam the fifth, Johanan the sixth, Jadie the seventh. 4Moreover, the sons of Ober-edom were Shemaiah his first-born, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Shabar the fourth, and Matlal the fifth, 5Gemaiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Pali the eighth; for the LORD blessed him. 6Also to Shemaiah his son were sons born, who ruled over the house of their fathers; for they were mighty men of valour. 7The sons of Shemaiah: Gathael, Cadhael, Obedael, and Zechariah, the mighty man, and Elijah and Semachiah. 8All these were of the sons of Ober-edom, they and their sons and their brethren, able men with strength for the service of the sanctuary, sixty-two sons of Ober-edom. 9And Meshelemiah's eldest son had sons, mighty men, eighteen. 10Also Hasah, of the children of Merari, had sons, mighty men; his eldest son died, and his father made the second the chief, but he did not call him by the name of the eldest. 11Hilkiah the second, Tebaliah the third, Zechariah the fourth; all the sons and brethren of Hasah were thirteen.

12Among these were the divisions of the porters, even among the chief men, having watch one opposite another, to minister in the house of the LORD. 13And they cast lots, the least as well as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate. 14And the lot eastward fell to Shelemiah. Then for Zechariah his son, a wise counsellor, they cast lots; and his lot came out northward. 15To Ober-edom southward; and to his sons the porches. 16To Shuppim and Hasah the lot fell westward, as far as the gate which is made in the road that goes up, watch opposite watch. 17Eastward were six Levites, northward four a day, southward four a day, and for the porches two by two. 18At Parbar westward, four at the road and two at Parbar. 19These are the divisions of the porters among the sons of Korah and among the sons of Merari.

20And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the storehouses of the house of God and over the storehouses of the dedicated things. 21The sons of Laadan: of the descendants of Gershon, Laadan, chiefs of the fathers, even of Laadan the Gershonite, was Nahli.

22The sons of Nahli: Zetham and Joel his brother who were over the storehouses of the house of the LORD. 23Of the Amramites and the Izharites, the Hebronites and the Uzzielites, 24Samuel the son of Gershon, the son of Moses, was chief in charge of the storehouses. 25And his brother Eliezer, Rehabiah his son and Isaiah his son and Joram his son and Zichri his son and Shelomith his son. 26This Shelomith and his brothers were in charge of all storehouses of the dedicated things, which David the king, the chiefs of the fathers, the commanders of the thousands and the hundreds, and the commanders of the army had dedicated. 27From spoils won in battles they dedicated some to maintain the house of the LORD. 28And all that Samuel the seer and Saul the son of Kish and Abner the son of Ner and Joab the son of Zuriah had dedicated; and whoever had dedicated anything, it was under the charge of Shelomith and of his brothers.

29Of the Izharites: Chenaniah and his sons were for the secular business of Israel, as scribes and judges. 30And of the Hebronites: Hashabiah and his brethren, men of valour, one thousand and seven hundred, were officers over the Israelites on this side of Jordan westward, in charge of all the business of the LORD and in the service of the king. 31Among the Hebronites was Neriah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of their fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of Gilead. 32And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chiefs of the fathers, whom King David made chiefs over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God and the affairs of the king.
