Acts 8
Literal Emphasis Translation Par ▾
1And Saul was there consenting to his killing. And in that day arose a great persecution against (upon) the church which was in Jerusalem. And all were scattered (dispersed) throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. 2And devout men buried Stephen and made great lamentation (beating of the head and chest, latin-planctum-mourning) over (upon) him. 3However Saul was devastating (latin-devastabat-waste like devastate) the church by entering the houses and dragging off men and women, he handed then over unto prison.

4Therefore those having been scattered (dispersed) went about preaching the word. 5And Philip having gone down unto a city of Samaria preached Christ to them. 6And the crowds with the same passion gave heed to the things being spoken by Philip, when they heard and saw the signs that he was doing. 7For many of those having unclean (impure) spirits, calling out intensely with a great voice, as they were coming out of them; and many having been paralyzed and lame were healed (etherapeuthesan). 8And there was much joy in that city.

9And a certain man named Simon had been formerly in the city practicing magical arts (mageuon) and astonishing the ethnicity of Samaria, declaring himself to be some great one. 10To whom all were giving heed from small as far as great, saying, This one is the power of God that is called Great. 11And they were giving heed to him because of the sufficient time that he had astonished them with the magic arts. 12And when they believed Philip preaching the gospel concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized both men and women. 13And Simon himself also believed and having been baptized was steadfastly continuing with Philip. And beholding signs and great miracles (miraculous powers) happening, he was astonished (amazed, flabbergasted).

14Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, 15who having come down, prayed concerning them so that they might receive the Holy Spirit. 16For He was not yet fallen upon any of them, however they had only been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. 17Then they laid hands upon them and they received the Holy Spirit. 18And Simon having seen that through the laying upon of the apostles hands that the Spirit was given, he offered money to them, 19Saying, Give also to me this authority so that upon whom I might lay upon hands, he might receive the Holy Spirit. 20And Peter said to him, Your silver with you, may it be unto destruction, because you thought (supposed, assumed) that the gift of God to be acquired through money. 21There is to you no part nor lot in this word; for your heart is not straight before God. 22Repent therefore away from this your malice (kakias, evil), and beg the Lord if whether the intent (design, purpose, thought) of your heart will be remitted (sent away from, discharged, released, latin roots are remit and release) you; 23For I see (horo, perceive, discern) you being unto the gall of bitterness (harshness) and the bond of unrighteousness (injustice). 24And Simon answering said, You beg to the Lord on behalf of me, so that nothing might come upon me of which you have spoken.

25They indeed therefore having thoroughly testified and having spoken the word of the Lord, returned unto Jerusalem and they preached the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.

26Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Rise up and go south upon the road going down away from Jerusalem unto Gaza; this is desert. 27And having risen up, he went. And behold, an Ethiopian man, a eunuch, a potentate (ruler, greek-dynastes like dynasty) of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over (upon) all her treasure, who had come unto Jerusalem to worship, 28He was returning and sitting upon his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29And the Spirit said to Philip, Go near and join yourself to this chariot. 30And Philip having run up heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, Do you know what you are reading? 31And he said, How could I be able except someone will guide me? And he entreated Philip having come up to sit with him.

32And the passage (a portion circumscribed) of the Scripture which he was reading was this, He was led as a sheep upon slaughter, and as a lamb is silent (voiceless, soundless) before the one shearing him, so He does not open His mouth.

33In His humiliation, His justice was taken away. Who will describe (thoroughly narrate) His generation? Because His life is removed away from the earth.

34And the eunuch answering to Philip, said, I request you concerning whom the prophet says this? Concerning himself or concerning some other man? 35And Philip having opened his mouth and having begun from this Scripture, preached the gospel of Jesus to him. 36And as they were going down the road, they came upon some water, and the eunuch says, Behold water; what prevents (hinders) me being baptized? 37{following not is Latin Vulgate and other translations it is in KJV and NASB- And Philip said, If you believe from out of the whole heart, it is possible (permitted). He answered and said, I believe Jesus Christ to be the Son of God.} 38And he commanded the chariot to stop. And they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39And when they came up from out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched up (herpasen, latin-rapuit-rapture, raptured, seized) and the eunuch no longer saw him; indeed he went his way, rejoicing. 40And Philip was found at (unto) Azotus, and passing through, he preached the gospel to all the towns until his coming unto Ceasarea.
