CommentaryBarnes' Notes on the Bible
Unjust gain - Omit "unjust:" "usury and gain" make up the notion of "gain derived from usury." Ill-gotten gains do not prosper, after a time they pass into hands that know how to use them better.
"He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy." Proverbs 28:13. The conditions of obtaining mercy of God are simple and just and reasonable. The Lord does not require us to do some grievous thing in order that we may have the forgiveness of sin. We need not make long and wearisome pilgrimages, or perform painful penances, to commend our souls to the God of heaven or to expiate our transgression; but he that confesseth and forsaketh his sin …

'Do not take usurious interest from him, but revere your God, that your countryman may live with you.
He may prepare it, but the just will wear it And the innocent will divide the silver.
He will have compassion on the poor and needy, And the lives of the needy he will save.
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.
He who despises his neighbor sins, But happy is he who is gracious to the poor.
He who oppresses the poor taunts his Maker, But he who is gracious to the needy honors Him.
