So the palace administrator, the city governor, the elders and the guardians sent this message to Jehu: "We are your servants and we will do anything you say. We will not appoint anyone as king; you do whatever you think best."

He that was over the house, etc. - Thus all the constituted authorities agreed to submit.

Will do all that thou shalt bid us - They made no conditions, and stood pledged to commit the horrid murders which this most execrable man afterwards commanded.

3. Which sentence dishonoreth the holy Martyrs, nay rather taketh away holy martyrdoms altogether.
