Jesus knew the Pharisees had heard that he was baptizing and making more disciples than John
(though Jesus himself didn't baptize them--his disciples did).
So he gave orders for them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Afterward Cornelius asked him to stay with them for several days.

When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn't use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God's secret plan.
