"Today I call on heaven and earth as witnesses against you. If you break my covenant, you will quickly disappear from the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy. You will live there only a short time; then you will be utterly destroyed.
"Now summon all the elders and officials of your tribes, so that I can speak to them directly and call heaven and earth to witness against them.
So Moses recited this entire song publicly to the assembly of Israel:
He calls on the heavens above and earth below to witness the judgment of his people.
Listen, O heavens! Pay attention, earth! This is what the LORD says: "The children I raised and cared for have rebelled against me.
Come here and listen, O nations of the earth. Let the world and everything in it hear my words.
Listen, all the earth! I will bring disaster on my people. It is the fruit of their own schemes, because they refuse to listen to me. They have rejected my word.
