a special possession to his servant Israel. His faithful love endures forever.
But the LORD will have mercy on the descendants of Jacob. He will choose Israel as his special people once again. He will bring them back to settle once again in their own land. And people from many different nations will come and join them there and unite with the people of Israel.
"But as for you, Israel my servant, Jacob my chosen one, descended from Abraham my friend,
I have called you back from the ends of the earth, saying, 'You are my servant.' For I have chosen you and will not throw you away.
"Pay attention, O Jacob, for you are my servant, O Israel. I, the LORD, made you, and I will not forget you.
"And why have I called you for this work? Why did I call you by name when you did not know me? It is for the sake of Jacob my servant, Israel my chosen one.
"So do not be afraid, Jacob, my servant; do not be dismayed, Israel," says the LORD. "For I will bring you home again from distant lands, and your children will return from their exile. Israel will return to a life of peace and quiet, and no one will terrorize them.
