Very early in the morning the leading priests and the elders of the people met again to lay plans for putting Jesus to death.
Very early in the morning the leading priests, the elders, and the teachers of religious law--the entire high council--met to discuss their next step. They bound Jesus, led him away, and took him to Pilate, the Roman governor.
Jesus' trial before Caiaphas ended in the early hours of the morning. Then he was taken to the headquarters of the Roman governor. His accusers didn't go inside because it would defile them, and they wouldn't be allowed to celebrate the Passover.
The high priest and the whole council of elders can testify that this is so. For I received letters from them to our Jewish brothers in Damascus, authorizing me to bring the Christians from there to Jerusalem, in chains, to be punished.
