CommentaryWesley's Notes on the Bible
32:1 Jazer - A city and country of the Amorites; Gilead - A mountainous country, famous for pasturage
A rabble of non-Israelites went with them, along with great flocks and herds of livestock.
After Moses sent men to explore the Jazer area, they captured all the towns in the region and drove out the Amorites who lived there.
they came to Moses, Eleazar the priest, and the other leaders of the community. They said,
The people of Gad took the best land for themselves; a leader's share was assigned to them. When the leaders of the people were assembled, they carried out the LORD's justice and obeyed his regulations for Israel."
So the men of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh left the rest of Israel at Shiloh in the land of Canaan. They started the journey back to their own land of Gilead, the territory that belonged to them according to the LORD's command through Moses.
Why did you sit at home among the sheepfolds--to hear the shepherds whistle for their flocks? Yes, in the tribe of Reuben there was great indecision.
Now this is what the LORD says concerning Judah's royal palace: "I love you as much as fruitful Gilead and the green forests of Lebanon. But I will turn you into a desert, with no one living within your walls.
