13:8 From our duty to magistrates he passes on to general duties. To love one another - An eternal debt, which can never be sufficiently discharged; but yet if this be rightly performed, it discharges all the rest. For he that loveth another - As he ought. "Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.
A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'
So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.
Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God's law.
For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
Yes indeed, it is good when you obey the royal law as found in the Scriptures: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.
