Berean Study BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone—1First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,
for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity.2for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,3This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.4who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,5For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.6who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
For this reason I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the Gentiles. I am telling the truth; I am not lying about anything.7For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.8Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.
Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty, and with self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,9Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments,
but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God.10but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.
A woman must learn in quietness and full submissiveness.11A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; she is to remain quiet.12But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.
For Adam was formed first, and then Eve.13For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.
And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was deceived and fell into transgression.14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.
Women, however, will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.15But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.
