On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there,1Now on the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,
and Jesus and His disciples had also been invited to the wedding.2and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.
When the wine ran out, Jesus’ mother said to Him, “They have no more wine.”3When the wine ran out, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no wine left."
“Woman, why does this concern us?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”4Jesus replied, "Woman, why are you saying this to me? My time has not yet come."
His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever He tells you.”5His mother told the servants, "Whatever he tells you, do it."
Now six stone water jars had been set there for the Jewish rites of purification. Each could hold from twenty to thirty gallons.6Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washing, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.
Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the brim.7Jesus told the servants, "Fill the water jars with water." So they filled them up to the very top.
“Now draw some out,” He said, “and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so,8Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the head steward," and they did.
and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not know where it was from, but the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside9When the head steward tasted the water that had been turned to wine, not knowing where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), he called the bridegroom
and said, “Everyone serves the fine wine first, and then the cheap wine after the guests are drunk. But you have saved the fine wine until now!”10and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the cheaper wine when the guests are drunk. You have kept the good wine until now!"
Jesus performed this, the first of His signs, at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.11Jesus did this as the first of his miraculous signs, in Cana of Galilee. In this way he revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
After this, He went down to Capernaum with His mother and brothers and His disciples, and they stayed there a few days.12After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples, and they stayed there a few days.
When the Jewish Passover was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.13Now the Jewish feast of Passover was near, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
In the temple courts He found men selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and money changers seated at their tables.14He found in the temple courts those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting at tables.
So He made a whip out of cords and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle. He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.15So he made a whip of cords and drove them all out of the temple courts, with the sheep and the oxen. He scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.
To those selling doves He said, “Get these out of here! How dare you turn My Father’s house into a marketplace!”16To those who sold the doves he said, "Take these things away from here! Do not make my Father's house a marketplace!"
His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for Your house will consume Me.”17His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for your house will devour me."
On account of this, the Jews demanded, “What sign can You show us to prove Your authority to do these things?”18So then the Jewish leaders responded, "What sign can you show us, since you are doing these things?"
Jesus answered, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up again.”19Jesus replied, "Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up again."
“This temple took forty-six years to build,” the Jews replied, “and You are going to raise it up in three days?”20Then the Jewish leaders said to him, "This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and are you going to raise it up in three days?"
But Jesus was speaking about the temple of His body.21But Jesus was speaking about the temple of his body.
After He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this. Then they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.22So after he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the scripture and the saying that Jesus had spoken.
While He was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the signs He was doing and believed in His name.23Now while Jesus was in Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover, many people believed in his name because they saw the miraculous signs he was doing.
But Jesus did not entrust Himself to them, for He knew them all.24But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people.
He did not need any testimony about man, for He knew what was in a man.25He did not need anyone to testify about man, for he knew what was in man.
