On the third day a wedding took place in Cana of Galilee. Jesus's mother was there, and1On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.
Jesus and his disciples were invited to the wedding as well.2Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.
When the wine ran out, Jesus's mother told him, "They don't have any wine."3When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”
"What does that have to do with you and me, woman?" Jesus asked. "My hour has not yet come."4And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.”
"Do whatever he tells you," his mother told the servants.5His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Now six stone water jars had been set there for Jewish purification. Each contained twenty or thirty gallons.6Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.
"Fill the jars with water," Jesus told them. So they filled them to the brim.7Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.
Then he said to them, "Now draw some out and take it to the headwaiter." And they did.8And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it.
When the headwaiter tasted the water (after it had become wine), he did not know where it came from--though the servants who had drawn the water knew. He called the groom9When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom
and told him, "Everyone sets out the fine wine first, then, after people are drunk, the inferior. But you have kept the fine wine until now."10and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”
Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee. He revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.11This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
After this, he went down to Capernaum, together with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples, and they stayed there only a few days.12After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother and his brothers and his disciples, and they stayed there for a few days.
The Jewish Passover was near, and so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.13The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
In the temple he found people selling oxen, sheep, and doves, and he also found the money changers sitting there.14In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there.
After making a whip out of cords, he drove everyone out of the temple with their sheep and oxen. He also poured out the money changers' coins and overturned the tables.15And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables.
He told those who were selling doves, "Get these things out of here! Stop turning my Father's house into a marketplace!"16And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.”
And his disciples remembered that it is written: Zeal for your house will consume me.17His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.”
So the Jews replied to him, "What sign will you show us for doing these things?"18So the Jews said to him, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?”
Jesus answered, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it up in three days."19Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
Therefore the Jews said, "This temple took forty-six years to build, and will you raise it up in three days?"20The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?”
But he was speaking about the temple of his body.21But he was speaking about the temple of his body.
So when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the statement Jesus had made.22When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.
While he was in Jerusalem during the Passover Festival, many believed in his name when they saw the signs he was doing.23Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing.
Jesus, however, would not entrust himself to them, since he knew them all24But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people
and because he did not need anyone to testify about man; for he himself knew what was in man.25and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man.
