But you are to proclaim things consistent with sound teaching.1But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.
Older men are to be self-controlled, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance.2Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.
In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not slaves to excessive drinking. They are to teach what is good,3Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good,
so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children,4and so train the young women to love their husbands and children,
to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, and in submission to their husbands, so that God's word will not be slandered.5to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.
In the same way, encourage the young men to be self-controlled6Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.
in everything. Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity in your teaching.7Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity,
Your message is to be sound beyond reproach, so that any opponent will be ashamed, because he doesn't have anything bad to say about us.8and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.
Slaves are to submit to their masters in everything, and to be well-pleasing, not talking back9Bondservants are to be submissive to their own masters in everything; they are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
or stealing, but demonstrating utter faithfulness, so that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior in everything.10not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,
instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age,12training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
while we wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.13waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
He gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people for his own possession, eager to do good works.14who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
Proclaim these things; encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.15Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
