Isaiah 26
CSB Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Christian Standard BibleNew International Version
On that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city. Salvation is established as walls and ramparts.1In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; God makes salvation its walls and ramparts.
Open the gates so a righteous nation can come in--one that remains faithful.2Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith.
You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in you.3You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
Trust in the LORD forever, because in the LORD, the LORD himself, is an everlasting rock!4Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal.
For he has humbled those who live in lofty places--an inaccessible city. He brings it down; he brings it down to the ground; he throws it to the dust.5He humbles those who dwell on high, he lays the lofty city low; he levels it to the ground and casts it down to the dust.
Feet trample it, the feet of the humble, the steps of the poor.6Feet trample it down-- the feet of the oppressed, the footsteps of the poor.
The path of the righteous is level; you clear a straight path for the righteous.7The path of the righteous is level; you, the Upright One, make the way of the righteous smooth.
Yes, LORD, we wait for you in the path of your judgments. Our desire is for your name and renown.8Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.
I long for you in the night; yes, my spirit within me diligently seeks you, for when your judgments are in the land, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.9My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.
But if the wicked man is shown favor, he does not learn righteousness. In a righteous land he acts unjustly and does not see the majesty of the LORD.10But when grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and do not regard the majesty of the LORD.
LORD, your hand is lifted up to take action, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame. Let fire consume your adversaries.11LORD, your hand is lifted high, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame; let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them.
LORD, you will establish peace for us, for you have also done all our work for us.12LORD, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.
LORD our God, lords other than you have owned us, but we remember your name alone.13LORD our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but your name alone do we honor.
The dead do not live; departed spirits do not rise up. Indeed, you have punished and destroyed them; you have wiped out all memory of them.14They are now dead, they live no more; their spirits do not rise. You punished them and brought them to ruin; you wiped out all memory of them.
You have added to the nation, LORD. You have added to the nation; you are honored. You have expanded all the borders of the land.15You have enlarged the nation, LORD; you have enlarged the nation. You have gained glory for yourself; you have extended all the borders of the land.
LORD, they went to you in their distress; they poured out whispered prayers because your discipline fell on them.16LORD, they came to you in their distress; when you disciplined them, they could barely whisper a prayer.
As a pregnant woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pains, so we were before you, LORD.17As a pregnant woman about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in your presence, LORD.
We became pregnant, we writhed in pain; we gave birth to wind. We have won no victories on earth, and the earth's inhabitants have not fallen.18We were with child, we writhed in labor, but we gave birth to wind. We have not brought salvation to the earth, and the people of the world have not come to life.
Your dead will live; their bodies will rise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust! For you will be covered with the morning dew, and the earth will bring out the departed spirits.19But your dead will live, LORD; their bodies will rise-- let those who dwell in the dust wake up and shout for joy-- your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.
Go, my people, enter your rooms and close your doors behind you. Hide for a little while until the wrath has passed.20Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by.
For look, the LORD is coming from his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. The earth will reveal the blood shed on it and will no longer conceal her slain.21See, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed on it; the earth will conceal its slain no longer.
