2 Thessalonians 2
ESV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
English Standard VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
1Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers,1Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,
2not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.2that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
3Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,3Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
4who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.4who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.
5Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?5Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?
6And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time.6And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed.
7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.
8And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming.8Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;
9The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders,9that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,
10and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.10and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.
11Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false,11For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,
12in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.12in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.
13But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.13But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
14To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.14It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.15So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.
16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,
17comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.17comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
