English Standard VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have given me relief when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!1For the choir director; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame? How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah2O sons of men, how long will my honor become a reproach? How long will you love what is worthless and aim at deception? Selah.
But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him.3But know that the LORD has set apart the godly man for Himself; The LORD hears when I call to Him.
Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah4Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the LORD.5Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And trust in the LORD.
There are many who say, “Who will show us some good? Lift up the light of your face upon us, O LORD!”6Many are saying, "Who will show us any good?" Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O LORD!
You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.7You have put gladness in my heart, More than when their grain and new wine abound.
In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.8In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety.
