Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because he burned to lime the bones of the king of Edom.1This is what the LORD says: "Because Moab has committed three crimes--make that four!--I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They burned the bones of Edom's king into lime.
So I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the strongholds of Kerioth, and Moab shall die amid uproar, amid shouting and the sound of the trumpet;2So I will set Moab on fire, and it will consume Kerioth's fortresses. Moab will perish in the heat of battle amid war cries and the blaring of the ram's horn.
I will cut off the ruler from its midst, and will kill all its princes with him,” says the LORD.3I will remove Moab's leader; I will kill all Moab's officials with him." The LORD has spoken!
Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they have rejected the law of the LORD, and have not kept his statutes, but their lies have led them astray, those after which their fathers walked.4This is what the LORD says: "Because Judah has committed three covenant transgressions--make that four!--I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They rejected the LORD's law; they did not obey his commands. Their false gods, to which their fathers were loyal, led them astray.
So I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the strongholds of Jerusalem.”5So I will set Judah on fire, and it will consume Jerusalem's fortresses."
Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals—6This is what the LORD says: "Because Israel has committed three covenant transgressions--make that four!--I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They sold the innocent for silver, the needy for a pair of sandals.
those who trample the head of the poor into the dust of the earth and turn aside the way of the afflicted; a man and his father go in to the same girl, so that my holy name is profaned;7They trample on the dirt-covered heads of the poor; they push the destitute away. A man and his father go to the same girl; in this way they show disrespect for my moral purity.
they lay themselves down beside every altar on garments taken in pledge, and in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been fined.8They stretch out on clothing seized as collateral; they do so right beside every altar! They drink wine bought with the fines they have levied; they do so right in the temple of their God!
“Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars and who was as strong as the oaks; I destroyed his fruit above and his roots beneath.9For Israel's sake I destroyed the Amorites. They were as tall as cedars and as strong as oaks, but I destroyed the fruit on their branches and their roots in the ground.
Also it was I who brought you up out of the land of Egypt and led you forty years in the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite.10I brought you up from the land of Egypt; I led you through the wilderness for forty years so you could take the Amorites' land as your own.
And I raised up some of your sons for prophets, and some of your young men for Nazirites. Is it not indeed so, O people of Israel?” declares the LORD.11I made some of your sons prophets and some of your young men Nazirites. Is this not true, you Israelites?" The LORD is speaking!
“But you made the Nazirites drink wine, and commanded the prophets, saying, ‘You shall not prophesy.’12"But you made the Nazirites drink wine; you commanded the prophets, 'Do not prophesy!'
“Behold, I will press you down in your place, as a cart full of sheaves presses down.13Look! I will press you down, like a cart loaded down with grain presses down.
Flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not retain his strength, nor shall the mighty save his life;14Fast runners will find no place to hide; strong men will have no strength left; warriors will not be able to save their lives.
he who handles the bow shall not stand, and he who is swift of foot shall not save himself, nor shall he who rides the horse save his life;15Archers will not hold their ground; fast runners will not save their lives, nor will those who ride horses.
and he who is stout of heart among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day,” declares the LORD.16Bravehearted warriors will run away naked in that day." The LORD is speaking!
