Corinthians 2

Holman Christian Standard BibleEnglish Standard Version
When I came to you, brothers, announcing the testimony of God to you, I did not come with brilliance of speech or wisdom. 1And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom.
For I didn't think it was a good idea to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.2For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
I came to you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.3And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling,
My speech and my proclamation were not with persuasive words of wisdom but with a powerful demonstration by the Spirit, 4and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
so that your faith might not be based on men's wisdom but on God's power. 5so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
However, we do speak a wisdom among the mature, but not a wisdom of this age, or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.6Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away.
On the contrary, we speak God's hidden wisdom in a mystery, a wisdom God predestined before the ages for our glory.7But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory.
None of the rulers of this age knew this wisdom, for if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.8None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
But as it is written: What eye did not see and ear did not hear, and what never entered the human mind-- God prepared this for those who love Him. 9But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—
Now God has revealed these things to us by the Spirit, for the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.10these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man that is in him? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 11For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we may understand what has been freely given to us by God. 12Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.
We also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual things to spiritual people.13And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
But the unbeliever does not welcome what comes from God's Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually. 14The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
The spiritual person, however, can evaluate everything, yet he himself cannot be evaluated by anyone. 15The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.
For who has known the Lord's mind, that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ. 16“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
