Job 37
HCSB Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleInternational Standard Version
My heart pounds at this and leaps from my chest. 1"Now I'll conclude with this: my heart is trembling violently; it feels like it's about to leap from my body!
Just listen to His thunderous voice and the rumbling that comes from His mouth. 2Listen carefully to his thundering voice; to the sound that rumbles from his mouth.
He lets it loose beneath the entire sky; His lightning to the ends of the earth. 3He releases his lightning throughout the sky, to the ends of the earth.
Then there comes a roaring sound; God thunders with His majestic voice. He does not restrain the lightning when His rumbling voice is heard. 4His thunder roars after it; his majestic voice will thunder; and no one can trace them once his voice has been heard.
God thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things that we cannot comprehend. 5"God thunders with his wondrous voice; he does awesome works that we don't comprehend.
For He says to the snow, "Fall to the earth," and the torrential rains, His mighty torrential rains, 6For he says to the snow, 'Fall to the earth.' He tells the rain, 'Pour down,' then it rains profusely.
serve as His sign to all mankind, so that all men may know His work. 7"He puts a limit to the skill of every person; to delineate all people from what they do.
The wild animals enter their lairs and stay in their dens. 8"Then a beast enters its lair and remains in its den.
The windstorm comes from its chamber, and the cold from the driving north winds. 9"From the south, a whirlwind proceeds, out of the icy north winds.
Ice is formed by the breath of God, and watery expanses are frozen. 10From the breath of God ice is produced, and a wide body of water is frozen.
He saturates clouds with moisture; He scatters His lightning through them. 11He also loads the clouds with moisture, scattering his lightning with the clouds.
They swirl about, turning round and round at His direction, accomplishing everything He commands them over the surface of the inhabited world. 12It whirls about in circles at his direction to accomplish all that he commands throughout the surface of the entire world,
He causes this to happen for punishment, for His land, or for His faithful love. 13whether for discipline on his land or to demonstrate his gracious love, he causes it to be realized."
Listen to this, Job. Stop and consider God's wonders. 14"Pay attention to this, Job! Stand still, and consider the wondrous attributes of God.
Do you know how God directs His clouds or makes their lightning flash? 15Do you know how God ordains them, and makes his lightning to flash throughout his clouds?
Do you understand how the clouds float, those wonderful works of Him who has perfect knowledge? 16Do you understand his wondrous work of balancing the clouds, the one whose knowledge is perfect,
You whose clothes get hot when the south wind brings calm to the land, 17you whose garments are hot, even though the land is cooled by a south wind?
can you help God spread out the skies as hard as a cast metal mirror? 18Can you spread out the skies like he does; can you cast them as one might a mirror?
Teach us what we should say to Him; we cannot prepare our case because of our darkness. 19Tell us! What are we to say to him? Can we prepare our case to face him when our faces are in darkness?
Should He be told that I want to speak? Can a man speak when he is confused? 20Has it been relayed to God that I want to talk? Can a person speak when he is confused?"
Now men cannot even look at the sun when it is in the skies, after a wind has swept through and cleared them away. 21"So then, the sun is too bright to gaze at, is it not? The sky is swept clean by the wind that blows, is it not?
Yet out of the north He comes, shrouded in a golden glow; awesome majesty surrounds Him. 22From the north he brings gold; around God is awesome splendor.
The Almighty--we cannot reach Him-- He is exalted in power! He will not oppress justice and abundant righteousness, 23We cannot find the Almighty— he is majestic in power and justice, and overflowing with righteousness; he never oppresses.
Therefore, men fear Him. He does not look favorably on any who are wise in heart. 24Therefore humanity fears him, which none of the wise can quite comprehend."
