Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to Him: We ask you, brothers, 1Now regarding the arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to be with him, we ask you, brothers and sisters,
not to be easily upset in mind or troubled, either by a spirit or by a message or by a letter as if from us, alleging that the Day of the Lord has come.2not to be easily shaken from your composure or disturbed by any kind of spirit or message or letter allegedly from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord is already here.
Don't let anyone deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction. 3Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not arrive until the rebellion comes and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction.
He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he sits in God's sanctuary, publicizing that he himself is God. 4He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, and as a result he takes his seat in God's temple, displaying himself as God.
Don't you remember that when I was still with you I told you about this? 5Surely you recall that I used to tell you these things while I was still with you.
And you know what currently restrains him, so that he will be revealed in his time.6And so you know what holds him back, so that he will be revealed in his own time.
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but the one now restraining will do so until he is out of the way, 7For the hidden power of lawlessness is already at work. However, the one who holds him back will do so until he is taken out of the way,
and then the lawless one will be revealed. The Lord Jesus will destroy him with the breath of His mouth and will bring him to nothing with the brightness of His coming. 8and then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will destroy by the breath of his mouth and wipe out by the manifestation of his arrival.
The coming of the lawless one is based on Satan's working, with all kinds of false miracles, signs, and wonders,9The arrival of the lawless one will be by Satan's working with all kinds of miracles and signs and false wonders,
and with every unrighteous deception among those who are perishing. They perish because they did not accept the love of the truth in order to be saved.10and with every kind of evil deception directed against those who are perishing, because they found no place in their hearts for the truth so as to be saved.
For this reason God sends them a strong delusion so that they will believe what is false, 11Consequently God sends on them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false.
so that all will be condemned--those who did not believe the truth but enjoyed unrighteousness. 12And so all of them who have not believed the truth but have delighted in evil will be condemned.
But we must always thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God has chosen you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth. 13But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
He called you to this through our gospel, so that you might obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 14He called you to this salvation through our gospel, so that you may possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions you were taught, either by our message or by our letter. 15Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold on to the traditions that we taught you, whether by speech or by letter.
May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace, 16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope,
encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word. 17encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good thing you do or say.
