| 2Jerusalem--the mountains surround her. And the LORD surrounds His people, both now and forever. | 2As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, now and forevermore. |
| 3The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, so that the righteous will not apply their hands to injustice. | 3Indeed, the scepter of a wicked king will not settle upon the allotted land of the godly. Otherwise the godly might do what is wrong. |
| 4Do what is good, LORD, to the good, to those whose hearts are upright. | 4Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, to the morally upright! |
| 5But as for those who turn aside to crooked ways, the LORD will banish them with the evildoers. Peace be with Israel. | 5As for those who are bent on traveling a sinful path, may the LORD remove them, along with those who behave wickedly! May Israel experience peace! |
