Job 26
HCSB Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleNew Living Translation
Then Job answered: 1Then Job spoke again:
How you have helped the powerless and delivered the arm that is weak! 2“How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the weak!
How you have counseled the unwise and thoroughly explained the path to success! 3How you have enlightened my stupidity! What wise advice you have offered!
Who did you speak these words to? Whose breath came out of your mouth? 4Where have you gotten all these wise sayings? Whose spirit speaks through you?
The departed spirits tremble beneath the waters and all that inhabit them. 5“The dead tremble— those who live beneath the waters.
Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering. 6The underworld is naked in God’s presence. The place of destruction is uncovered.
He stretches the northern skies over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing. 7God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing.
He wraps up the waters in His clouds, yet the clouds do not burst beneath their weight. 8He wraps the rain in his thick clouds, and the clouds don’t burst with the weight.
He obscures the view of His throne, spreading His cloud over it. 9He covers the face of the moon, shrouding it with his clouds.
He laid out the horizon on the surface of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness. 10He created the horizon when he separated the waters; he set the boundary between day and night.
The pillars that hold up the sky tremble, astounded at His rebuke. 11The foundations of heaven tremble; they shudder at his rebuke.
By His power He stirred the sea, and by His understanding He crushed Rahab. 12By his power the sea grew calm. By his skill he crushed the great sea monster.
By His breath the heavens gained their beauty; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent. 13His Spirit made the heavens beautiful, and his power pierced the gliding serpent.
These are but the fringes of His ways; how faint is the word we hear of Him! Who can understand His mighty thunder? 14These are just the beginning of all that he does, merely a whisper of his power. Who, then, can comprehend the thunder of his power?”
