Hebrews 2
ISV Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
International Standard VersionEnglish Standard Version
For this reason we must pay closer attention to the things we have heard, or we may drift away, 1Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.
because if the message spoken by angels was reliable, and every violation and act of disobedience received its just punishment, 2For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution,
how will we escape if we neglect a salvation as great as this? It was first proclaimed by the Lord himself, and then it was confirmed to us by those who heard him, 3how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard,
while God added his testimony through signs, wonders, various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.4while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
For he did not put the coming world we are talking about under the control of angels. 5For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking.
Instead, someone has declared somewhere, "What is man that you should remember him, or the son of man that you should care for him?6It has been testified somewhere, “What is man, that you are mindful of him, or the son of man, that you care for him?
You made him a little lower than the angels, yet you crowned him with glory and honor7You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you have crowned him with glory and honor,
and put everything under his feet." Now when God put everything under him, he left nothing outside his control. However, at the present time we do not yet see everything put under him. 8putting everything in subjection under his feet.” Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him.
But we do see someone who was made a little lower than the angels. He is Jesus, who is crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might experience death for everyone.9But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
It was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering as part of his plan to glorify many children, 10For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.
because both the one who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified all have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers 11For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers,
when he says, "I will announce your name to my brothers. I will praise you within the congregation."12saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.”
And again, "I will trust him." And again, "I am here with the children God has given me." 13And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me.”
Therefore, since the children have flesh and blood, he himself also shared the same things, so that by his death he might destroy the one who has the power of death (that is, the devil) 14Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
and might free those who were slaves all their lives because they were terrified by death. 15and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
For it is clear that he did not come to help angels. No, he came to help Abraham's descendants, 16For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham.
thereby becoming like his brothers in every way, so that he could be a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God and could atone for the people's sins. 17Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.18For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
