ISV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
International Standard VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
What should we say, then? Should we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 1What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?
Of course not! How can we who died as far as sin is concerned go on living in it?2May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?
Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into union with the Messiah Jesus were baptized into his death? 3Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?
Therefore, through baptism we were buried with him into his death so that, just as the Messiah was raised from the dead by the Father's glory, we too may live an entirely new life. 4Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
For if we have become united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 5For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection,
We know that our old natures were crucified with him so that our sin-laden bodies might be rendered powerless and we might no longer be slaves to sin. 6knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
For the person who has died has been freed from sin.7for he who has died is freed from sin.
Now if we have died with the Messiah, we believe that we will also live with him, 8Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,
for we know that the Messiah, who was raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 9knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him.
For when he died, he died once and for all as far as sin is concerned. But now that he is alive, he lives for God. 10For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.
In the same way, you too must continuously consider yourselves dead as far as sin is concerned, but living for God through the Messiah Jesus. 11Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Therefore, do not let sin rule your mortal bodies so that you obey their desires. 12Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,
Stop offering the parts of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness. Instead, offer yourselves to God as people who have been brought from death to life and the parts of your body as instruments of righteousness to God. 13and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
For sin will not have mastery over you, because you are not under Law but under grace.14For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
What, then, does this mean? Should we go on sinning because we are not under Law but under grace? Of course not! 15What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!
Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? 16Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?
But thank God that, though you were once slaves of sin, you became obedient from your hearts to that form of teaching with which you were entrusted! 17But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed,
And since you have been freed from sin, you have become slaves of righteousness.18and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
I am speaking in simple terms because of the frailty of your human nature. Just as you once offered the parts of your body as slaves to impurity and to greater and greater disobedience, so now, in the same way, you must offer the parts of your body as slaves to righteousness that leads to sanctification. 19I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.
For when you were slaves of sin, you were "free" as far as righteousness was concerned. 20For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.
What benefit did you get from doing those things you are now ashamed of? For those things resulted in death. 21Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death.
But now that you have been freed from sin and have become God's slaves, the benefit you reap is sanctification, and the result is eternal life. 22But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in union with the Messiah Jesus our Lord.23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
