Galatians 5
ISV Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
International Standard VersionNew International Version
The Messiah has set us free so that we may enjoy the benefits of freedom. So keep on standing firm in it, and stop putting yourselves under the yoke of slavery again. 1It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Listen! I, Paul, am telling you that if you allow yourselves to be circumcised, the Messiah will be of no benefit to you. 2Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
Again, I insist that everyone who allows himself to be circumcised is obligated to obey the entire Law. 3Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.
Those of you who are trying to be justified by the Law have been cut off from the Messiah. You have fallen away from grace.4You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
Through the Spirit by faith we confidently await the fulfillment of our righteous hope, 5For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope.
for in union with the Messiah Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision matters. What matters is faith expressed through love.6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
You were running the race beautifully. Who cut in on you and stopped you from obeying the truth? 7You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?
Such influence does not come from the one who calls you. 8That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you.
A little yeast spreads through the whole batch of dough. 9"A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough."
I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view of this. However, the one who is troubling you will suffer God's judgment, whoever he is. 10I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty.
As for me, brothers, if I am still preaching the necessity of circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. 11Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.
I wish that those who are upsetting you would castrate themselves!12As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
For you, brothers, were called to freedom. Only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity to gratify your flesh, but through love make it your habit to serve one another. 13You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
For the whole Law is summarized in a single statement: "You must love your neighbor as yourself."14For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you are not destroyed by each other. 15If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will never fulfill the desires of the flesh. 16So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
For what the flesh wants is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit wants is opposed to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, and so you do not do what you want to do. 17For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.
But if you are being led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Now the actions of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, promiscuity, 19The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, rivalry, jealously, outbursts of anger, quarrels, conflicts, factions, 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
envy, murder, drunkenness, wild partying, and things like that. I am telling you now, as I have told you in the past, that people who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Now those who belong to the Messiah Jesus have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Since we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also be guided. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Let's stop being arrogant, provoking one another and envying one another.26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
