A Psalm of David. LORD, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee.1A Psalm of David. I call upon You, O LORD; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to You.
Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.2May my prayer be set before You like incense, my uplifted hands like the evening offering.
Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.3Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.
Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.4Do not let my heart be drawn to any evil thing or take part in works of wickedness with men who do iniquity; let me not feast on their delicacies.
Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.5Let the righteous man strike me; let his rebuke be an act of loving devotion. It is oil for my head; let me not refuse it. For my prayer is ever against the deeds of the wicked.
When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.6When their rulers are thrown down from the cliffs, the people will listen to my words, for they are pleasant.
Our bones are scattered at the grave's mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth wood upon the earth.7As when one plows and breaks up the soil, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol.
But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.8But my eyes are fixed on You, O GOD the Lord. In You I seek refuge; do not leave my soul defenseless.
Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity.9Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, and from the lures of evildoers.
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape.10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.
