Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;3Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;
And patience, experience; and experience, hope:4perseverance, character; and character, hope.
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.
For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.6For at just the right time, while we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.7Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die.
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.8But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.9Therefore, since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from wrath through Him!
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.10For if, when we were enemies of God, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!
And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.11Not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:12Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned.
(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.13For sin was in the world before the law was given; but sin is not taken into account when there is no law.
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.14Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who did not sin in the way that Adam transgressed. He is a pattern of the One to come.
But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.15But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many!
And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.16Again, the gift is not like the result of the one man’s sin: The judgment that followed one sin brought condemnation, but the gift that followed many trespasses brought justification.
For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)17For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive an abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!
Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.18So then, just as one trespass brought condemnation for all men, so also one act of righteousness brought justification and life for all men.
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.19For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:20The law came in so that the trespass would increase; but where sin increased, grace increased all the more,
That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.21so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
