And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:1On the third day of that week there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,
And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.2and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.3When the wine ran out, Jesus' mother told him, "They don't have any more wine."
Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.4"How does that concern us, dear lady?" Jesus asked her. "My time hasn't come yet."
His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.5His mother told the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.6Now standing there were six stone water jars used for the Jewish rites of purification, each one holding from two to three measures.
Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.7Jesus told the servants, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them up to the brim.
And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.8Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the man in charge of the banquet." So they did.
When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,9When the man in charge of the banquet tasted the water that had become wine (without knowing where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew), he called for the bridegroom
And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.10and told him, "Everyone serves the best wine first, and the cheap kind when people are drunk. But you have kept the best wine until now!"
This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.11Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee. He revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.12After this, Jesus went down to Capernaum—he, his mother, his brothers, and his disciples—and they remained there for a few days.
And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,13The Jewish Passover was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:14In the Temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, as well as moneychangers sitting at their tables.
And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;15After making a whip out of cords, he drove all of them out of the Temple, including the sheep and the cattle. He scattered the coins of the moneychangers and knocked over their tables.
And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.16Then he told those who were selling the doves, "Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father's house a marketplace!"
And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.17His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for your house will consume me."
Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?18Then the Jewish leaders asked him, "What sign can you show us as authority for doing these things?"
Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.19Jesus answered them, "Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will rebuild it."
Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?20The Jewish leaders said, "This sanctuary has been under construction for 46 years, and you're going to rebuild it in three days?"
But he spake of the temple of his body.21But the sanctuary he was speaking about was his own body.
When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.22After he had been raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this. So they believed the Scripture and the statement that Jesus had made.
Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did.23While Jesus was in Jerusalem for the Passover Festival, many people believed in him because they saw the signs that he was doing.
But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men,24Jesus, however, did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people
And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.25and didn't need anyone to tell him what people were like, because he himself knew what was in every person.
