KJV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
King James BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.1Then these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.2But the anger of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram burned; against Job his anger burned because he justified himself before God.
Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.3And his anger burned against his three friends because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.4Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were years older than he.
When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.5And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men his anger burned.
And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.6So Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite spoke out and said, "I am young in years and you are old; Therefore I was shy and afraid to tell you what I think.
I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.7"I thought age should speak, And increased years should teach wisdom.
But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.8"But it is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.
Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.9"The abundant in years may not be wise, Nor may elders understand justice.
Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.10"So I say, 'Listen to me, I too will tell what I think.'
Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say.11"Behold, I waited for your words, I listened to your reasonings, While you pondered what to say.
Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words:12"I even paid close attention to you; Indeed, there was no one who refuted Job, Not one of you who answered his words.
Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.13"Do not say, 'We have found wisdom; God will rout him, not man.'
Now he hath not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.14"For he has not arranged his words against me, Nor will I reply to him with your arguments.
They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking.15"They are dismayed, they no longer answer; Words have failed them.
When I had waited, (for they spake not, but stood still, and answered no more;)16"Shall I wait, because they do not speak, Because they stop and no longer answer?
I said, I will answer also my part, I also will shew mine opinion.17"I too will answer my share, I also will tell my opinion.
For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.18"For I am full of words; The spirit within me constrains me.
Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.19"Behold, my belly is like unvented wine, Like new wineskins it is about to burst.
I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.20"Let me speak that I may get relief; Let me open my lips and answer.
Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.21"Let me now be partial to no one, Nor flatter any man.
For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.22"For I do not know how to flatter, Else my Maker would soon take me away.
