Then these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.1So these three men stopped answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
But the anger of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram burned; against Job his anger burned because he justified himself before God.2This kindled the anger of Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram. He burned with anger against Job for justifying himself rather than God,
And his anger burned against his three friends because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.3and he burned with anger against Job’s three friends because they had failed to refute Job, and yet had condemned him.
Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were years older than he.4Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because the others were older than he.
And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men his anger burned.5But when he saw that the three men had no further reply, his anger was kindled.
So Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite spoke out and said, "I am young in years and you are old; Therefore I was shy and afraid to tell you what I think.6So Elihu son of Barachel the Buzite declared: “I am young in years, while you are old; that is why I was timid and afraid to tell you what I know.
"I thought age should speak, And increased years should teach wisdom.7I thought that age should speak, and many years should teach wisdom.
"But it is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.8But there is a spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.
"The abundant in years may not be wise, Nor may elders understand justice.9It is not only the old who are wise, or the elderly who understand justice.
"So I say, 'Listen to me, I too will tell what I think.'10Therefore I say, ‘Listen to me; I too will declare what I know.’
"Behold, I waited for your words, I listened to your reasonings, While you pondered what to say.11Indeed, I waited while you spoke; I listened to your reasoning; as you searched for words,
"I even paid close attention to you; Indeed, there was no one who refuted Job, Not one of you who answered his words.12I paid you full attention. But no one proved Job wrong; not one of you rebutted his arguments.
"Do not say, 'We have found wisdom; God will rout him, not man.'13So do not claim, ‘We have found wisdom; let God, not man, refute him.’
"For he has not arranged his words against me, Nor will I reply to him with your arguments.14But Job has not directed his words against me, and I will not answer him with your arguments.
"They are dismayed, they no longer answer; Words have failed them.15Job’s friends are dismayed, with no more to say; words have escaped them.
"Shall I wait, because they do not speak, Because they stop and no longer answer?16Must I wait, now that they are silent, now that they stand and no longer reply?
"I too will answer my share, I also will tell my opinion.17I too will answer; yes, I will declare what I know.
"For I am full of words; The spirit within me constrains me.18For I am full of words, and my spirit within me compels me.
"Behold, my belly is like unvented wine, Like new wineskins it is about to burst.19Behold, my belly is like unvented wine; it is about to burst like a new wineskin.
"Let me speak that I may get relief; Let me open my lips and answer.20I must speak and find relief; I must open my lips and respond.
"Let me now be partial to no one, Nor flatter any man.21I will be partial to no one, nor will I flatter any man.
"For I do not know how to flatter, Else my Maker would soon take me away.22For I do not know how to flatter, or my Maker would remove me in an instant.
