For the music director, to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a psalm of David. When I call out, answer me, O God who vindicates me! Though I am hemmed in, you will lead me into a wide, open place. Have mercy on me and respond to my prayer! 1For the choir director: with stringed instruments. A Davidic psalm. Answer me when I call, God, who vindicates me. You freed me from affliction; be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
You men, how long will you try to turn my honor into shame? How long will you love what is worthless and search for what is deceptive? (Selah) 2How long, exalted men, will my honor be insulted? How long will you love what is worthless and pursue a lie? Selah
Realize that the LORD shows the godly special favor; the LORD responds when I cry out to him. 3Know that the LORD has set apart the faithful for Himself; the LORD will hear when I call to Him.
Tremble with fear and do not sin! Meditate as you lie in bed, and repent of your ways! (Selah) 4Be angry and do not sin; on your bed, reflect in your heart and be still. Selah
Offer the prescribed sacrifices and trust in the LORD! 5Offer sacrifices in righteousness and trust in the LORD.
Many say, "Who can show us anything good?" Smile upon us, LORD! 6Many are saying, "Who can show us anything good?" Look on us with favor, LORD.
You make me happier than those who have abundant grain and wine. 7You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and new wine abound.
I will lie down and sleep peacefully, for you, LORD, make me safe and secure. 8I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, LORD, make me live in safety.
