For the music director; according to the gittith style; written by the Korahites, a psalm. How lovely is the place where you live, O LORD who rules over all! 1To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!
I desperately want to be in the courts of the LORD's temple. My heart and my entire being shout for joy to the living God. 2My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.
Even the birds find a home there, and the swallow builds a nest, where she can protect her young near your altars, O LORD who rules over all, my king and my God. 3Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.
How blessed are those who live in your temple and praise you continually! (Selah) 4Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.
How blessed are those who find their strength in you, and long to travel the roads that lead to your temple! 5Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.
As they pass through the Baca Valley, he provides a spring for them. The rain even covers it with pools of water. 6Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.
They are sustained as they travel along; each one appears before God in Zion. 7They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.
O LORD, sovereign God, hear my prayer! Listen, O God of Jacob! (Selah) 8O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.
O God, take notice of our shield! Show concern for your chosen king! 9Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.
Certainly spending just one day in your temple courts is better than spending a thousand elsewhere. I would rather stand at the entrance to the temple of my God than live in the tents of the wicked. 10For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
For the LORD God is our sovereign protector. The LORD bestows favor and honor; he withholds no good thing from those who have integrity. 11For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
O LORD who rules over all, how blessed are those who trust in you! 12O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
