This is what the LORD says: "Because Moab has committed three crimes--make that four!--I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They burned the bones of Edom's king into lime. 1Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of Moab and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.
So I will set Moab on fire, and it will consume Kerioth's fortresses. Moab will perish in the heat of battle amid war cries and the blaring of the ram's horn. 2"So I will send fire upon Moab And it will consume the citadels of Kerioth; And Moab will die amid tumult, With war cries and the sound of a trumpet.
I will remove Moab's leader; I will kill all Moab's officials with him." The LORD has spoken! 3"I will also cut off the judge from her midst And slay all her princes with him," says the LORD.
This is what the LORD says: "Because Judah has committed three covenant transgressions--make that four!--I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They rejected the LORD's law; they did not obey his commands. Their false gods, to which their fathers were loyal, led them astray. 4Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of Judah and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because they rejected the law of the LORD And have not kept His statutes; Their lies also have led them astray, Those after which their fathers walked.
So I will set Judah on fire, and it will consume Jerusalem's fortresses." 5"So I will send fire upon Judah And it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem."
This is what the LORD says: "Because Israel has committed three covenant transgressions--make that four!--I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They sold the innocent for silver, the needy for a pair of sandals. 6Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of Israel and for four I will not revoke its punishment, Because they sell the righteous for money And the needy for a pair of sandals.
They trample on the dirt-covered heads of the poor; they push the destitute away. A man and his father go to the same girl; in this way they show disrespect for my moral purity. 7"These who pant after the very dust of the earth on the head of the helpless Also turn aside the way of the humble; And a man and his father resort to the same girl In order to profane My holy name.
They stretch out on clothing seized as collateral; they do so right beside every altar! They drink wine bought with the fines they have levied; they do so right in the temple of their God! 8"On garments taken as pledges they stretch out beside every altar, And in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been fined.
For Israel's sake I destroyed the Amorites. They were as tall as cedars and as strong as oaks, but I destroyed the fruit on their branches and their roots in the ground. 9"Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, Though his height was like the height of cedars And he was strong as the oaks; I even destroyed his fruit above and his root below.
I brought you up from the land of Egypt; I led you through the wilderness for forty years so you could take the Amorites' land as your own. 10"It was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt, And I led you in the wilderness forty years That you might take possession of the land of the Amorite.
I made some of your sons prophets and some of your young men Nazirites. Is this not true, you Israelites?" The LORD is speaking! 11"Then I raised up some of your sons to be prophets And some of your young men to be Nazirites. Is this not so, O sons of Israel?" declares the LORD.
"But you made the Nazirites drink wine; you commanded the prophets, 'Do not prophesy!' 12"But you made the Nazirites drink wine, And you commanded the prophets saying, 'You shall not prophesy!'
Look! I will press you down, like a cart loaded down with grain presses down. 13"Behold, I am weighted down beneath you As a wagon is weighted down when filled with sheaves.
Fast runners will find no place to hide; strong men will have no strength left; warriors will not be able to save their lives. 14"Flight will perish from the swift, And the stalwart will not strengthen his power, Nor the mighty man save his life.
Archers will not hold their ground; fast runners will not save their lives, nor will those who ride horses. 15"He who grasps the bow will not stand his ground, The swift of foot will not escape, Nor will he who rides the horse save his life.
Bravehearted warriors will run away naked in that day." The LORD is speaking! 16"Even the bravest among the warriors will flee naked in that day," declares the LORD.
