Psalm 20
NET BibleNew Living Translation
For the music director; a psalm of David. May the LORD answer you when you are in trouble; may the God of Jacob make you secure! 1In times of trouble, may the LORD answer your cry. May the name of the God of Jacob keep you safe from all harm.
May he send you help from his temple; from Zion may he give you support! 2May he send you help from his sanctuary and strengthen you from Jerusalem.
May he take notice of your offerings; may he accept your burnt sacrifice! (Selah) 3May he remember all your gifts and look favorably on your burnt offerings. Interlude
May he grant your heart's desire; may he bring all your plans to pass! 4May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed.
Then we will shout for joy over your victory; we will rejoice in the name of our God! May the LORD grant all your requests! 5May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory and raise a victory banner in the name of our God. May the LORD answer all your prayers.
Now I am sure that the LORD will deliver his chosen king; he will intervene for him from his holy heavenly temple, and display his mighty ability to deliver. 6Now I know that the LORD rescues his anointed king. He will answer him from his holy heaven and rescue him by his great power.
Some trust in chariots and others in horses, but we depend on the LORD our God. 7Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the LORD our God.
They will fall down, but we will stand firm. 8Those nations will fall down and collapse, but we will rise up and stand firm.
The LORD will deliver the king; he will answer us when we call to him for help! 9Give victory to our king, O LORD! Answer our cry for help.
