You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine.1But as for you, speak the things that are consistent with sound doctrine.
Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.2Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, and sound in faith, love, and perseverance.
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good.3Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers or addicted to much wine, but teachers of good.
Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children,4In this way they can train the young women to love their husbands and children,
to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.5to be self-controlled, pure, managers of their households, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be discredited.
Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.6In the same way, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.
In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness7In everything, show yourself to be an example by doing good works. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,
and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.8and wholesome speech that is above reproach, so that anyone who opposes us will be ashamed to have nothing bad to say about us.
Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them,9Slaves are to submit to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.10not stealing from them, but showing all good faith, so that in every respect they will adorn the teaching about God our Savior.
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to everyone.
It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,12It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
while we wait for the blessed hope--the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,13as we await the blessed hope and glorious appearance of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.14He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.15Speak these things as you encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
