Then Job replied:1Then Job answered:
"How you have helped the powerless! How you have saved the arm that is feeble!2How you have helped the powerless and delivered the arm that is weak!
What advice you have offered to one without wisdom! And what great insight you have displayed!3How you have counseled the unwise and thoroughly explained the path to success!
Who has helped you utter these words? And whose spirit spoke from your mouth?4Who did you speak these words to? Whose breath came out of your mouth?
"The dead are in deep anguish, those beneath the waters and all that live in them.5The departed spirits tremble beneath the waters and all that inhabit them.
The realm of the dead is naked before God; Destruction lies uncovered.6Sheol is naked before God, and Abaddon has no covering.
He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing.7He stretches the northern skies over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing.
He wraps up the waters in his clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under their weight.8He wraps up the waters in His clouds, yet the clouds do not burst beneath their weight.
He covers the face of the full moon, spreading his clouds over it.9He obscures the view of His throne, spreading His cloud over it.
He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters for a boundary between light and darkness.10He laid out the horizon on the surface of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness.
The pillars of the heavens quake, aghast at his rebuke.11The pillars that hold up the sky tremble, astounded at His rebuke.
By his power he churned up the sea; by his wisdom he cut Rahab to pieces.12By His power He stirred the sea, and by His understanding He crushed Rahab.
By his breath the skies became fair; his hand pierced the gliding serpent.13By His breath the heavens gained their beauty; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.
And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?"14These are but the fringes of His ways; how faint is the word we hear of Him! Who can understand His mighty thunder?
