Corinthians 6
NIV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New International VersionInternational Standard Version
If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord's people?1When one of you has a complaint against another, does he dare to take the matter before those who are unrighteous and not before the saints?
Or do you not know that the Lord's people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?2You know that the saints will rule the world, don't you? And if the world is going to be ruled by you, can't you handle insignificant cases?
Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!3You know that we will rule angels, not to mention things in this life, don't you?
Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church?4So if you have cases dealing with this life, why do you appoint as judges people who have no standing in the church?
I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?5I say this to make you feel ashamed. Has it come to this, that there is not one person among you who is wise enough to settle disagreements between brothers?
But instead, one brother takes another to court--and this in front of unbelievers!6Instead, one brother goes to court against another brother, and before unbelieving judges, at that!
The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?7The very fact that you have lawsuits among yourselves is already a defeat for you. Why not rather just accept the wrong? Why not rather be cheated?
Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters.8Instead, you yourselves practice doing wrong and cheating others, and brothers at that!
Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men9You know that wicked people will not inherit the kingdom of God, don't you? Stop deceiving yourselves! Sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals,
nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.10thieves, greedy people, drunks, slanderers, and robbers will not inherit the kingdom of God.
And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.11That is what some of you were! But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of our Lord Jesus the Messiah and by the Spirit of our God.
"I have the right to do anything," you say--but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything"--but I will not be mastered by anything.12Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is helpful. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not allow anything to control me.
You say, "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both." The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.13Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food, but God will make them both unnecessary. The body is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.14God raised the Lord, and by his power he will also raise us.
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!15You know that your bodies belong to the Messiah, don't you? Should I take what belongs to the Messiah and unite them with a prostitute? Certainly not!
Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."16You know that the person who unites himself with a prostitute becomes one body with her, don't you? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."
But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.17But the person who unites himself with the Lord becomes one spirit with him.
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.18Keep on running away from sexual immorality. Any other sin that a person commits is outside his body, but the person who sins sexually sins against his own body.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;19You know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God, don't you? You do not belong to yourselves,
you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.20because you were bought for a price. Therefore, glorify God with your bodies.
