Hebrews 2
NIV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.1For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it.
For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment,2For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty,
how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.3how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard,
God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.4God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.
It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking.5For He did not subject to angels the world to come, concerning which we are speaking.
But there is a place where someone has testified: "What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him?6But one has testified somewhere, saying, "WHAT IS MAN, THAT YOU REMEMBER HIM? OR THE SON OF MAN, THAT YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIM?
You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor7"YOU HAVE MADE HIM FOR A LITTLE WHILE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS; YOU HAVE CROWNED HIM WITH GLORY AND HONOR, AND HAVE APPOINTED HIM OVER THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS;
and put everything under their feet." In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them.8YOU HAVE PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET." For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him.
But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.9But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.
In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered.10For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings.
Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.11For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,
He says, "I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters; in the assembly I will sing your praises."12saying, "I WILL PROCLAIM YOUR NAME TO MY BRETHREN, IN THE MIDST OF THE CONGREGATION I WILL SING YOUR PRAISE."
And again, "I will put my trust in him." And again he says, "Here am I, and the children God has given me."13And again, "I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM." And again, "BEHOLD, I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME."
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil--14Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.15and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants.16For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham.
For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.17Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.18For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.
