Isaiah 27
NIV Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
In that day, the LORD will punish with his sword-- his fierce, great and powerful sword-- Leviathan the gliding serpent, Leviathan the coiling serpent; he will slay the monster of the sea.1In that day the LORD will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, With His fierce and great and mighty sword, Even Leviathan the twisted serpent; And He will kill the dragon who lives in the sea.
In that day-- "Sing about a fruitful vineyard:2In that day, "A vineyard of wine, sing of it!
I, the LORD, watch over it; I water it continually. I guard it day and night so that no one may harm it.3"I, the LORD, am its keeper; I water it every moment. So that no one will damage it, I guard it night and day.
I am not angry. If only there were briers and thorns confronting me! I would march against them in battle; I would set them all on fire.4"I have no wrath. Should someone give Me briars and thorns in battle, Then I would step on them, I would burn them completely.
Or else let them come to me for refuge; let them make peace with me, yes, let them make peace with me."5"Or let him rely on My protection, Let him make peace with Me, Let him make peace with Me."
In days to come Jacob will take root, Israel will bud and blossom and fill all the world with fruit.6In the days to come Jacob will take root, Israel will blossom and sprout, And they will fill the whole world with fruit.
Has the LORD struck her as he struck down those who struck her? Has she been killed as those were killed who killed her?7Like the striking of Him who has struck them, has He struck them? Or like the slaughter of His slain, have they been slain?
By warfare and exile you contend with her-- with his fierce blast he drives her out, as on a day the east wind blows.8You contended with them by banishing them, by driving them away. With His fierce wind He has expelled them on the day of the east wind.
By this, then, will Jacob's guilt be atoned for, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: When he makes all the altar stones to be like limestone crushed to pieces, no Asherah poles or incense altars will be left standing.9Therefore through this Jacob's iniquity will be forgiven; And this will be the full price of the pardoning of his sin: When he makes all the altar stones like pulverized chalk stones; When Asherim and incense altars will not stand.
The fortified city stands desolate, an abandoned settlement, forsaken like the wilderness; there the calves graze, there they lie down; they strip its branches bare.10For the fortified city is isolated, A homestead forlorn and forsaken like the desert; There the calf will graze, And there it will lie down and feed on its branches.
When its twigs are dry, they are broken off and women come and make fires with them. For this is a people without understanding; so their Maker has no compassion on them, and their Creator shows them no favor.11When its limbs are dry, they are broken off; Women come and make a fire with them, For they are not a people of discernment, Therefore their Maker will not have compassion on them. And their Creator will not be gracious to them.
In that day the LORD will thresh from the flowing Euphrates to the Wadi of Egypt, and you, Israel, will be gathered up one by one.12In that day the LORD will start His threshing from the flowing stream of the Euphrates to the brook of Egypt, and you will be gathered up one by one, O sons of Israel.
And in that day a great trumpet will sound. Those who were perishing in Assyria and those who were exiled in Egypt will come and worship the LORD on the holy mountain in Jerusalem.13It will come about also in that day that a great trumpet will be blown, and those who were perishing in the land of Assyria and who were scattered in the land of Egypt will come and worship the LORD in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.
