New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David. Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer.1For the choir director; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods2O sons of men, how long will my honor become a reproach? How long will you love what is worthless and aim at deception? Selah.
Know that the LORD has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him.3But know that the LORD has set apart the godly man for Himself; The LORD hears when I call to Him.
Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.4Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the LORD.5Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And trust in the LORD.
Many, LORD, are asking, "Who will bring us prosperity?" Let the light of your face shine on us.6Many are saying, "Who will show us any good?" Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O LORD!
Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound.7You have put gladness in my heart, More than when their grain and new wine abound.
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.8In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O LORD, make me to dwell in safety.
