NKJV Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New King James VersionInternational Standard Version
Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish’s belly.1 Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from inside the sea creature.
And he said: “I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, And He answered me. “Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, And You heard my voice.2He said: "I called out to the LORD from the midst of affliction directed at me, and he answered me. From the depths of death I cried out for help; and you heard my cry.
For You cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the floods surrounded me; All Your billows and Your waves passed over me.3You cast me into the deep— into the heart of the sea. Flood waters engulfed me. All your breakers and your waves swirled over me.
Then I said, ‘I have been cast out of Your sight; Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.’4So I told myself, 'I have been driven away from you. How will I again gaze on your holy Temple?'
The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; The deep closed around me; Weeds were wrapped around my head.5Flood waters encompassed me, the deep surrounded me while seaweed wrapped around my head.
I went down to the moorings of the mountains; The earth with its bars closed behind me forever; Yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD, my God.6I sank to the roots of the mountains; the earth's prison bars closed around me forever. Yet you resurrect the dead from the Pit, LORD my God!
“When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple.7"As my life was fading away, I remembered the LORD; and my prayer came to you in your holy Temple.
“Those who regard worthless idols Forsake their own Mercy.8Those who cling to vain idols leave behind the gracious love that could have been theirs.
But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.”9But as for me, with a voice of thanksgiving I will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Deliverance is the LORD's!"
So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.10Then the LORD spoke to the sea creature, and it spewed Jonah onto the dry land.
