New King James VersionInternational Standard Version
Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid.1The person who loves correction loves knowledge, but anyone who hates a rebuke is stupid.
A good man obtains favor from the LORD, But a man of wicked intentions He will condemn.2The good person will gain favor from the LORD, but the man who plots evil will be condemned by him.
A man is not established by wickedness, But the root of the righteous cannot be moved.3A person doesn't gain security by wickedness, but the righteous won't be uprooted.
An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones.4A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, but a wife who puts him to shame is like bone cancer.
The thoughts of the righteous are right, But the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.5The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.
The words of the wicked are, “Lie in wait for blood,” But the mouth of the upright will deliver them.6The words of the wicked lead to bloodshed, but the speech of the upright delivers them.
The wicked are overthrown and are no more, But the house of the righteous will stand.7After they're overthrown, the wicked won't be found, but the house of the righteous stands firm.
A man will be commended according to his wisdom, But he who is of a perverse heart will be despised.8A man is praised because of his wise words, but the perverted mind will be despised.
Better is the one who is slighted but has a servant, Than he who honors himself but lacks bread.9It's better to be unimportant, yet have a servant, than to pretend to be important, but lack food.
A righteous man regards the life of his animal, But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.10The righteous person looks out for the welfare of his livestock, but even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.
He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, But he who follows frivolity is devoid of understanding.11Whoever tills his soil will have a lot to eat, but anyone who pursues fantasies lacks sense.
The wicked covet the catch of evil men, But the root of the righteous yields fruit.12The wicked desires what evil people gain, but the foundation of the righteous is productive.
The wicked is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, But the righteous will come through trouble.13An evil man's sinful speech ensnares him, but the righteous person escapes from trouble.
A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, And the recompense of a man’s hands will be rendered to him.14By his fruitful speech a man can remain satisfied, and a man's handiwork will reward him.
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise.15The lifestyle of the fool is right in his own opinion, but wise is the man who listens to advice.
A fool’s wrath is known at once, But a prudent man covers shame.16The anger of a fool becomes readily apparent, but the prudent person overlooks an insult.
He who speaks truth declares righteousness, But a false witness, deceit.17The truth teller speaks what is right, but the false witness speaks what is deceitful.
There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, But the tongue of the wise promotes health.18Some speak rashly like the cutting of a sword, but what the wise say promotes healing.
The truthful lip shall be established forever, But a lying tongue is but for a moment.19A truthful saying is trusted forever, but the liar only for a moment.
Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, But counselors of peace have joy.20Deceit is at home in the heart of those who plan evil, but those who promote peace rejoice.
No grave trouble will overtake the righteous, But the wicked shall be filled with evil.21No harm overwhelms the righteous, but the wicked overflow with trouble.
Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal truthfully are His delight.22Deceitful speech is reprehensible to the LORD, but those who act faithfully are his delight.
A prudent man conceals knowledge, But the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.23A prudent man keeps what he knows to himself, but the hearts of fools shout forth their foolishness.
The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor.24The diligent will take control, but the lazy will be put to forced labor.
Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.25A person's anxiety weighs down his heart, but an appropriate word is encouraging.
The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray.26The righteous person is cautious with respect to his neighbor, but the lifestyle of the wicked leads them astray.
The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, But diligence is man’s precious possession.27The lazy person does not roast what he has hunted, but diligence is one's most important possession.
In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway there is no death.28In the pathway to righteousness there is life, and in that lifestyle there is no death.
