Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.1This is what the LORD says: "Because Moab has committed three crimes--make that four!--I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They burned the bones of Edom's king into lime.
But I will send a fire upon Moab, And it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth; Moab shall die with tumult, With shouting and trumpet sound.2So I will set Moab on fire, and it will consume Kerioth's fortresses. Moab will perish in the heat of battle amid war cries and the blaring of the ram's horn.
And I will cut off the judge from its midst, And slay all its princes with him,” Says the LORD.3I will remove Moab's leader; I will kill all Moab's officials with him." The LORD has spoken!
Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because they have despised the law of the LORD, And have not kept His commandments. Their lies lead them astray, Lies which their fathers followed.4This is what the LORD says: "Because Judah has committed three covenant transgressions--make that four!--I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They rejected the LORD's law; they did not obey his commands. Their false gods, to which their fathers were loyal, led them astray.
But I will send a fire upon Judah, And it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.”5So I will set Judah on fire, and it will consume Jerusalem's fortresses."
Thus says the LORD: “For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because they sell the righteous for silver, And the poor for a pair of sandals.6This is what the LORD says: "Because Israel has committed three covenant transgressions--make that four!--I will not revoke my decree of judgment. They sold the innocent for silver, the needy for a pair of sandals.
They pant after the dust of the earth which is on the head of the poor, And pervert the way of the humble. A man and his father go in to the same girl, To defile My holy name.7They trample on the dirt-covered heads of the poor; they push the destitute away. A man and his father go to the same girl; in this way they show disrespect for my moral purity.
They lie down by every altar on clothes taken in pledge, And drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.8They stretch out on clothing seized as collateral; they do so right beside every altar! They drink wine bought with the fines they have levied; they do so right in the temple of their God!
“Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, Whose height was like the height of the cedars, And he was as strong as the oaks; Yet I destroyed his fruit above And his roots beneath.9For Israel's sake I destroyed the Amorites. They were as tall as cedars and as strong as oaks, but I destroyed the fruit on their branches and their roots in the ground.
Also it was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt, And led you forty years through the wilderness, To possess the land of the Amorite.10I brought you up from the land of Egypt; I led you through the wilderness for forty years so you could take the Amorites' land as your own.
I raised up some of your sons as prophets, And some of your young men as Nazirites. Is it not so, O you children of Israel?” Says the LORD.11I made some of your sons prophets and some of your young men Nazirites. Is this not true, you Israelites?" The LORD is speaking!
“But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink, And commanded the prophets saying, ‘Do not prophesy!’12"But you made the Nazirites drink wine; you commanded the prophets, 'Do not prophesy!'
“Behold, I am weighed down by you, As a cart full of sheaves is weighed down.13Look! I will press you down, like a cart loaded down with grain presses down.
Therefore flight shall perish from the swift, The strong shall not strengthen his power, Nor shall the mighty deliver himself;14Fast runners will find no place to hide; strong men will have no strength left; warriors will not be able to save their lives.
He shall not stand who handles the bow, The swift of foot shall not escape, Nor shall he who rides a horse deliver himself.15Archers will not hold their ground; fast runners will not save their lives, nor will those who ride horses.
The most courageous men of might Shall flee naked in that day,” Says the LORD.16Bravehearted warriors will run away naked in that day." The LORD is speaking!
